the intransitive verbs can be differentiated from the intransitive verbs by “कौन ” (Kaun – Who).

Questions can be formed by कौन + क्रिया? – Who + verb? . The answer is the कर्ता (Karta) – subject.

This is explained with some examples.

  1. सीता हँस रही है। – Sita is laughing.

Question: कौन हँस रही है? – Who is laughing? Answer: सीता। – Sita.

the transitive verbs can be differentiated from the intransitive verbs by “क्या” (Kya – What), किस (Kis – What/Who) and किसको (Kisko – Whom).

Questions can be formed by  कौन + कर्म + क्रिया ? – Who + verb? . The answer is the कर्ता (Karta) – Subject.

And,  क्या + क्रिया ? – Who + verb? or क्या + क्रिया? – Whom + verb? –  The answer is the कर्म (Karm) – Object.

This is explained with some examples.

1. सीता फल खा रही है। – Sita is eating fruit.

When you will ask, क्या खा रही है? What is she eating?

You will get the answer, “फल” . This the object that the transitive verb, खा रही है (to eat) is using

A verb can be described as transitive or intransitive based on whether it requires an object to express a complete thought or not. A transitive verb is one that only makes sense if it exerts its action on an object. An intransitive verb will make sense without one. Some verbs may be used both verb.
